Love
Lives Forever
Although
this album was produced and released posthumously in 1980, I'm certain
Minnie would have been extremely proud of this brilliant production.
The songs on this album creatively mixes Minnie's 1978 recordings with
artists such as Stevie Wonder, Peabo Bryson, George Benson, Lee Ritenour,
Paulinho Castro, Paul Jackson (the ultimate studio guitarist) Roberta Flack,
Michael Jackson, Hubert Laws, Michael Broddicker, Harvey Mason, Greg Phillinganes,
Gayle Levant, Maxine Waters, Julia Waters, Stephanie Spruill, Tom Scott,
Gerry Vinci, and Patrice Rushen. This masterpiece could be considered
a definitive tribute to the stupendous talent of Minnie Riperton.

The
song, "Here We Go" was the first single release from the album, and it
did well in the charts. "Give Me Time", the second single release
did not do as well, despite
the fact that it is an elegant tune. For whatever reason, the soulful
"You Take My Breath Away" and the beautifully arranged "The Song of Life"
did not get very much airplay.
Each artist who participated
in the making of this album signed the back of the cover with their own
personal tributes to Minnie. You may click
here to read the tributes in their entirety, My favorite comment
is from Stevie Wonder:
I miss
you because I cannot touch you...
but then again,
I guess that
I can because you're
touching me...
so, Love lives
forever."
(Stevie Wonder,
aka Stevland Morris)
